I think CIYC is dead?
RIP, mediocore music blog.
RIP, mediocore music blog.
New EP of cover songs by CIYC’s favorite folk duo, Vacation. Featuring covers of GBV, The Cure, Pavement, Neil Young, Joanna Newsom and Lana Del Rey. They really make these songs their own.

Energetic indie pop EP by Canadian band, Secret Connection. Kinda lo-fi and pretty catchy. It’s not too often I listen to a release two or more times in a row, but guess what happened!

Warbley lo-fi folk album from New York duo, Leopard Smoke. You might have already heard the second track, Anti-Art, if you checked out that Sunchoke compilation I posted about recently. Go take a listen.

New album from Detroit based musical trio, Tandem Bicycle. Chilled out, sampley, lo-fi, synthy pop gems about “memory and girls and stuff”.
Ok, so there’s a triangle in the title and it’s kind of chillwavey, and nobody would blame you for chuckling and making a remark about how 2010 that is, but listen to the first track and then try telling me that wasn’t fun!

Four incredibly pretty tracks of ambient dubstep/‘post dubstep’/whatever from Seattle producer, Kid Smpl. The title track features some arpy bleeps reminiscent of early Skream, liquidy Balam Acab-esque claps, a whole bunch of sub and a downright gorgeous atmosphere. Go listen and download the EP right now.
Props to Egyptian Maraccas for posting about this.

18 track compilation put together by music and art collective, Sunchoke. Spanning from indie rock to experimental pop and folk rock to ambient pop, all with at least a touch of lo-fi warmth to it.

Dance Yrself Clean’s Favorite Bandcamp-ers of 2011…SO…I’ve compiled my favorite jams and favorite albums of the year lists and well this December would not be complete for this music whore unless it also included highlighting the titans of Bandcamp that have made my world a better place in 2011. Okay be warned I’m gonna get all sappy but it’s been a true pleasure getting to tweet or Tumblr ask box with so many of these artists. It’s just a splendid experience that always makes blogging that much more damn fun and fulfilling. I kind of feel like I’ve formed this supportive nurturing family bond with many Bandcamp artists. Having said that…I can’t wait to hear what they have in store for us in the new year! This list of 60 acts (keeping things simple is not in my Tumblr vocabulary) including Abadabad, Saskatchewan, Work Drugs, The New Division, North Highlands, Alligator Indian, Au Palais, Spanish Prisoners, Caged Animals etc is in alphabetical order because for me choosing to place one of these above another would just be a horrible Sophie’s Choice kind of thing that I’m not willing to make.
I hope you find at least one new artist to become an obsessed fan of! Click on each act (you will be referred to their Bandcamp page) to enter a world filled with delightful as fuck times!

Another album/mixtape from “"alt-rnb”“ producer, The Weeknd. I was going to post this yesterday when there was a chance you might not have seen a million other links to it but I ended up watching Home Alone, playing monopoly and babysitting my siblings…. So on the very slight chance you have not already downloaded/listened, go do so now!

A lovely little Christmas present from the always impeccable experimental pop band Parenthetical Girls. Merry holidays, music fans!

More quirky and experimental pop noisiness from Atlanta’s deadCAT in the form of their first album!

Pretty late on this one. It found it’s way into my iTunes library a couple months ago somehow and I only got round to listening to it the other day. It’s an album of kinda simple, but also fantastic, noise pop. If you’re a fan of Titus Andronicus, the vocals on this might particularly appeal to you.

Some hypnotising, mellowed out dream pop from Canadian band, Tearjerker. Check it out, give it a download. Maybe think about grabbing one of the super limited CD copies.

Neat little EP of experimental pop from a guy in Tallahasse. Definitely check it out if you dig either Parenthetical Girls or Baths, and extra definitely if you dig both.
